Guidance for Year 13
Languages - French, Spanish, Irish

Our aim in A Level Modern Languages is to provide a course of study that is enjoyable, intellectually stimulating, interesting and relevant to our students' needs.

It is anticipated that the course will be suitable only for those who have attained GCSE grades B or above.

The course of study will build on what has been achieved in GCSE through further development of the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The subject content is made up of a study of:
  1. Young people today
  2. Aspects of Society
  3. People and Society
  4. Contemporary Issues
  5. Cultural and Social Landscape
  6. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Topics (a), (b) and (c) are covered in the first year of study ie. AS and topics (d), (e) and (f) in the second year leading to the A2 examination. All topics are covered in the context of the country/countries studied.

Students must pass at AS level before proceeding to A2. It is possible to re-sit modules in January.

In all subjects the teaching will be in the target language as far as possible. A wide range of resources including newspapers, magazines, videos, CD Roms and tapes will be used.

Students of Modern Languages at this stage are encouraged to take part in the Pupil Exchange/Work Exchange scheme during Year 13.
