A BROAD AND BALANCED CURRICULUM
St Michael's works continually to develop each pupil's intellectual capacity to the full. To this end, a wide ranging curriculum, in line with the Education Reform (NI) Order, 1989, is provided, aimed at enabling each pupil to have a broad, balanced, relevant and coherent experience.
The curriculum at Key Stage 4 is defined through:

SUBJECTS PROVIDED AT KEY STAGE 4 (Years 11-12)
In Years 11 and 12, pupils are required to follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum. This includes a compulsory core and a range of optional subjects. The educational themes are an integral part of the curriculum at Key Stage 4. Normally pupils take nine subjects for GCSE. However, following advice and consultation with parents, some pupils may be advised to take a maximum of eight subjects.

- Physics, Chemistry and Biology have traditionally been on offer along with Double Award Science or Single Award Science
- One subject from the Environment and Society Area of Study (Geography, History or Business Studies)

All students are timetabled for PE, Careers Education and Guidance as well as Speech and Drama classes. Years 11 and 12 pupils are also timetabled for one period of Personal and Social Education each week. |
